Hike Overview
This 3.5km Bells Rapids Goat Walk loop offers a captivating blend of challenge and reward. Witness the white-water fury of the Swan River rapids, their power further accentuated by the majestic boulders lining the banks. In winter, the rapids become particularly dramatic, a sight best captured from the Bells Rapids Park Footbridge (don't forget your camera!).
The hike begins at the Cathedral Avenue car park. After crossing the footbridge, take a right to embark on the more challenging Goat Walk trail. Prepare for a steeper climb as you ascend towards a scenic lookout point. Here, soak in the breathtaking panorama of the surrounding countryside and coastal plains.
As you descend the trail, keep an eye out for the beautiful grey kangaroos that frequent the area (seasonal sightings). You'll pass the Bridle Trail on your right before reaching the riverbank. Take a left turn here to join the Bells Rapids River Walk trail, completing the 3.5km loop.
Track Grade
Grade 3 (Moderate) - Walks for Most Fitness Levels: Grade 3 on the AWTGS represents moderate walking tracks. These are ideal for walkers with some fitness who are comfortable with some hills and uneven terrain. While suitable for most ages, some bushwalking experience is recommended to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Tracks may have short, steep hill sections, a rough surface, and many steps. The total distance of a Grade 3 walk can be up to 20 kilometers.
Tips
- The Goat Walk has steep inclines, loose gravel sections and a medium level of fitness is required.
- This hike is moderately challenging, so sturdy shoes and plenty of water are essential.

The hike begins from the Cathedral Avenue carpark at the end of Cathedral Avenue, off Great Northern Highway, Brigadoon.
