Kelly Hill Conservation Park: A Journey Through Time

Kelly Hill Conservation Park offers a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of nature’s underground artistry. Millions of years ago, the area was submerged beneath the sea, and the remnants of this ancient marine life formed the foundation of the park’s extraordinary geological features.

Over time, the constant ebb and flow of the sea created vast dunes composed of seashells. These dunes hardened into porous limestone, which has subsequently been sculpted by rainwater into a subterranean labyrinth of caves and sinkholes. Within these caverns, breathtaking formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, and towering columns adorn the walls and ceilings, creating a surreal and awe-inspiring environment.

Visitors can embark on an immersive journey through the caves with an audio-visual tour that combines narration and dynamic lighting. This experience provides valuable insights into the caves’ history and geology. Before descending underground, an above-ground walk introduces visitors to the park’s environment and sets the stage for the subterranean adventure.

Kelly Hill Conservation Park is located 85 kilometres southwest of Kingscote on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Access to Kangaroo Island is available via the SeaLink or KI Connect ferries, or by air through Qantas.
