Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park: A Hidden Gem in the Adelaide Hills

Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park comprises four distinct areas totalling 253 hectares, forming a vital corridor of native vegetation approximately 16 kilometres east of Adelaide. This protected area safeguards significant stands of stringybark, candlebark, and manna gum trees, creating a habitat for diverse plant and animal life.

The park is renowned for its conservation value, preserving remnants of open forest and woodland. Visitors may encounter rare and intriguing species such as the pink boronia and the elusive Southern brown bandicoot. Birdwatchers may be fortunate to spot the shy Scaly thrush.

Established in 1985, the park expanded through generous land donations. It was named in honour of Kenneth Stirling, whose bequest enabled its creation.

While the park’s primary focus is conservation, it offers opportunities for exploration. A network of fire tracks and walking trails wind through the four distinct areas: Burdett’s Scrub, Filsell Hill, White’s Scrub, and Wotton’s Scrub. While some trails are well-defined, others may require more adventurous spirits.

Given its proximity to Adelaide and relatively undisturbed nature, Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park offers a unique escape for those seeking solitude and a connection with nature.
