Discover Mornington Peninsula National Park: A Coastal Adventure

Mornington Peninsula National Park is situated on the traditional Country of the Bunurong People. This coastal park offers a diverse landscape, from tranquil bushland to rugged cliffs.

Home to a variety of wildlife including bandicoots, wallabies, and parrots, the park stretches from Sorrento to Cape Schanck. Its environment encompasses coastal cliffs, sandy dunes, banksia woodlands, and wetlands.

Arthurs Seat provides panoramic views of the peninsula and Melbourne skyline. For a different perspective, explore French Island, known for its koala population, or the dramatic cliffs of Cape Schanck.

Point Nepean National Park, a part of the larger Mornington Peninsula National Park, offers a glimpse into history with its former military installations. Visitors can walk or cycle through the park, enjoying stunning coastal scenery and views of Bass Strait.

Port Phillip Bay, adjacent to the park, is a protected marine environment home to diverse aquatic life. Visitors can participate in dolphin and seal tours, explore shipwrecks like the HMAS Canberra, or discover the wonders of the underwater world through snorkelling.

The park’s coastline is a popular destination for both surfers and families. Gunamatta Beach attracts experienced surfers while Sorrento Ocean Beach offers calm rock pools. The Coastal Walk, a two-day journey, showcases the park’s dramatic cliffs and coastal vegetation.

Greens Bush, a significant area of native bushland within the park, provides habitat for kangaroos. Please note that dogs are not permitted in Mornington Peninsula National Park, including beaches, carparks, and Greens Bush.

As with any coastal area, visitors should be aware of potential hazards and follow water safety guidelines. Access to the northern part of the park is via Boneo Road, near Cape Schanck, while the southern section is best accessed from Nepean Highway/Point Nepean Road.
