A Pristine Wilderness: Ravine des Casoars Wilderness Protection Area

Ravine des Casoars Wilderness Protection Area is a remote and unspoiled natural environment located on the western tip of Kangaroo Island, approximately 80 kilometres west of Kingscote, South Australia. Established in 1993, the area was previously part of the renowned Flinders Chase National Park.

Bounded by West Bay Road and West Melrose Track to the south, West End Highway to the east, and Playford Highway and the coastline to the north, the wilderness area encompasses a vast expanse of pristine woodland and forest. The park features intact natural drainage systems that flow directly into the Southern Ocean.

Renowned for its exceptional wilderness quality, Ravine des Casoars is home to a diverse range of native plant species, many of which are endemic to the region. The park’s undisturbed ecosystem provides critical habitat for a variety of wildlife.
